The Andean and Pacific regions continue to show significant deforestation: Chocó: Pacifico Norte - Riosucio and Unguía, in addition to Norte de Santander in Catatumbo. These territories share some of the drivers of this phenomenon in the Amazon, but are concentrated mainly in bad practices of extensive cattle ranching, agricultural expansion in non-permitted areas, illegal logging, illegal mineral extraction and illicit crops.

Deforestation is mostly concentrated in forests that are not protected, i.e. are not within the more than 28 million hectares that make up the country's 59 protected areas.
