Rodrigo Botero
General Manager of FCDS
He is a great connoisseur of the dynamics and realities of the Amazon. Under his direction, FCDS has conducted overflights to monitor deforestation in the Amazon, totaling more than 150 flights and 50,000 kilometers of routes traveled in the analysis of deforestation drivers.
Before founding the FCDS, he was territorial director of National Natural Parks in the Amazon and Orinoquia and technical coordinator of Andes Amazonia, a U.S. Department of the Interior program implemented in Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Colombia.
He has extensive experience in project management, risk mitigation strategies in armed conflict zones, best practices in extractive industries and transboundary strategies for natural resource management and law enforcement.
He has worked with government agencies and local communities in areas affected by drug trafficking and illicit crops. He has also advised indigenous and campesino organizations on issues such as planning, management and land rights.
In 2019, Semana magazine awarded him the "Best Leaders of Colombia" award. He was winner of the "Henry Arnold" scholarship of the Mulago Foundation and is a member of the Advisory Council of the Norwegian Human Rights Fund and Honorary Research Associate of the Field Museum of Natural History.
Since 2022, he has been a delegate of the Colombian Government at the Peace Dialogue Table with the ELN. In 2023 he received the "75 new leaders of the country" award from the newspaper El País (America); and in 2024 the Stanford Bright Award. He is a columnist for several media outlets.
