Environmental crimes such as illegal mining and logging have violently erupted in the Peruvian Amazon, affecting forests, biodiversity, indigenous communities, security, health, social peace and governance.
According to the report "Illegal mining in the Peruvian Amazon", this illicit activity is reported to be breaking into the districts of Tambopata, Las Piedras, Inambari and Laberinto (Tambopata province); as well as in Manu, Huepetuhe and Madre de Dios (Manu province).
The infographic summarizes the findings of a situational diagnosis on the progress and impact of mining activity in the Amazon regions of Loreto, San Martin, Amazonas, Ucayali, Madre de Dios and the province of Puerto Inca, in Huanuco. In these regions, mining is one of the growing drivers of deforestation in the Peruvian Amazon, affecting forests, biodiversity, human health and safety, social peace and governance.
