The Amazon forests in Peru are home to great biodiversity, store carbon and are a source of fresh water. In addition to being the territory of several indigenous peoples, they provide forestry, fishing, agricultural and fuel resources. Their conservation is essential for the future of the country.

However, the Peruvian Amazon is threatened by deforestation, caused by activities such as agriculture, logging, illegal mining and infrastructure projects carried out without adequate planning.  Faced with this scenario, FCDS Peru, with the strategic support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway, is developing the United for Forests project.

The project has two main objectives.

  • Contribute to the reduction and reversal of deforestation in the Peruvian Amazon by improving the performance of policies and actions at the national and regional levels.
  • Support the improvement of access to information as well as the participation of citizens and different social actors, in order to promote actions on the challenges and opportunities related to the development of the Peruvian Amazon.

Lines of action

The "United for Forests" project focuses its activities on the following lines of action:

Reducing deforestation

Emphasize the importance of reducing deforestation rates in the strategies of sustainable development models in the Peruvian Amazon and in local, regional and national government programs.

It is based on training decision-makers, specialists and communicators; strengthening the regulatory framework and knowledge-based institutions; and generating and disseminating technical information and proposals for sustainable alternatives.

Communicate more and better

Strengthen the capacity and knowledge of local, regional and national journalists and communicators on the challenges and opportunities related to the development of the Peruvian Amazon.

Through training for journalists and communicators, alliances with the media and the strengthening of communicators and information networks.

Working with young people to conserve

To support young people in understanding the challenges and opportunities to conserve and develop the Peruvian Amazon.

Through the implementation of action campaigns and the training of networks of young leaders, forest conservation and sustainable development are positioned in the agenda and proposals of the new generations.

Working with women to preserve

To support women in their actions for the conservation and reduction of deforestation in the Peruvian Amazon.

We seek to strengthen the role of women in forest conservation through action campaigns with women and the creation of platforms for the articulation of networks of women environmental leaders.
