{"id":1921,"date":"2024-04-26T12:50:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-26T17:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fcds.org.pe\/uncategorized\/government-formalizes-the-creation-of-the-mar-tropical-de-grau-national-reserve\/"},"modified":"2024-10-10T23:40:20","modified_gmt":"2024-10-11T04:40:20","slug":"government-formalizes-the-creation-of-the-mar-tropical-de-grau-national-reserve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fcds.org.pe\/en\/news\/government-formalizes-the-creation-of-the-mar-tropical-de-grau-national-reserve\/","title":{"rendered":"Government formalizes the creation of the Mar Tropical de Grau National Reserve"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>This new natural protected area covers an area of 115,675.89 hectares of marine territory off the coasts of Piura and Tumbes.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The aim is to <em>conserve marine ecosystems, contribute to climate change mitigation and promote the sustainable use of our natural resources.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lima, April 26, 2024.  <\/strong>The Peruvian government made official the creation of the Mar Tropical de Grau National Reserve, which covers an area of 115,675.89 hectares of marine territory off the coasts of the Piura and Tumbes regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This aims to conserve a representative sample of Peru&#8217;s tropical marine ecosystems, contributing to the continuity of ecological processes and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources in four sectors: Foca Island, Cabo Blanco-El \u00d1uro, Punta Sal Reefs and Mancora Bank, according to Supreme Decree No. 003-2024-MINAM published in the Official Gazette El Peruano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regulation also establishes that within the Mar Tropical de Grau National Reserve, the development of scientific research activities will be promoted in order to obtain the most information available to contribute to the planning and effective management of the protected natural area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Service of Natural Protected Areas (Sernanp) indicated that this creation will generate multiple benefits such as the sustainable use of natural resources with the local population, working with artisanal fishermen, and promoting opportunities for the development and management of tourism in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The supreme decree establishes that the implementation of this regulation will be financed with Sernanp&#8217;s institutional budget. The decree also established a 9-month deadline for the development and approval of the Master Plan for this new protected natural area. These decisions promote the governance of natural protected areas and support the commitment of local populations to their territory.
